A collection inspired by the importance of rivers to the state of Texas.
When I first moved to the Dallas area twenty years ago from East Tennessee, I was struck by two things: the lack of mountains, and the lack of rivers. Whereas in Tennessee there is a river or creek or some other body of water every few yards or so, in Texas water is scarce. One thing that I noticed about Texas Rivers is that they all have names, no matter how small the flow, No matter how far out in the outer reaches of Texas you go, if there is a river, there will be a sign naming that river. The rivers of Texas are not only important to the well-being of people and animals throughout the state, but they are also uniquely beautiful. In this series of pieces, I try to capture that unique beauty by using Royston ribbon turquoise (mined in Nevada) and sterling silver to capture the texture and movement of the waters.
