The SOUTHWESTERN ADVENTURE collection was inspired by my first trip west of the Pecos River. The pieces are hand forged in copper. The colors are applied by a technique using colored wax pencil and a protective clear coat to prevent wear. Some pieces have also been enameled. The process used will be indicated for each particular piece. The overall shape is inspired by the adobe buildings of New Mexico. The three discs represent the beams that protrude from the adobe walls to hold up the roof. The three copper rods represent the rafters of the ceiling inside the adobe house. The colors represent the predominant colors of the American Southwest: the reds and purples from dried chilies, the blues of the spectacular sky and the turquoise that is mined there, the black and white of snow on the mountains and the contrast of the sand dunes from the surrounding landscape, and the purples and oranges from the gorgeous sunsets and the light reflecting off the mountains in the evenings.
