Greetings, all, and if you celebrate such a mush-infested holiday, Happy Valentine's Day! I my curmudgeonly self choose to ignore it, and take advantage of the flower sales on February 15, but that's a story for another day. Instead, I wish to regale you, the hopefully patient and longsuffering reader, with tales of my success in finding homes for some of my sparklies, as well as future plans. I'll make this short, because I do not have that many pictures this time. (Still getting over my TMEA hangover, to be honest!)
For those of you just joining, my "real" job involves repairing musical instruments. I went down to Kingsville for TAMU-K's Clarinet Day, and then spent some much-needed down time in Corpus Christi and Port Aransas. While in south Texas, I showed my jewelry for the first time, and sold two pieces! I also spent some time on the beach on Padre Island, where there was not a soul to be seen, and then went on to Port Aransas, where there were mostly drunk and sunburned souls, but hey, at least I found a fossil shark's tooth and got hold of some choice malachite beads at a very good price. I'm looking forward to incorporating the malachite beads into a piece at some point. From the Corpus Christi Bay area, I headed north to San Antonio to attend the Texas Music Educators' Association convention. As usual, it was a madhouse, but I did have some very interesting chats about my future as a jewelry artist with some dear friends, and I found homes for a pair of impression jasper earrings and an impression jasper bracelet. And yes, I did that clarinet repair and sales thing that I'm known for.
I'm pleased to say that I got a lot of attention and positive feedback for my larger pieces, and I also learned that I really need to get my act together and get a business card for my jewelry stuff. In other news, I would like to announce that I'm starting a week-long artist residency program on February 27, and I'm super excited! I'm curious as to what I will accomplish during this time of uninterrupted creation, and I will be sure to share the results with all of you. Wish me luck!
