Clarinet register key pendant with Hubei turquoise
"Ritornello" means "little return" in Italian. It is a term used to describe the instrumental interlude between soloists in a Baroque opera or concerto. I chose "ritornello" because I am returning a little piece of a woodwind instrument to another life in the form of jewelry.
The bail of this pendant comes from the thumb piece of a Buffet E11 register key. The instrument had a long, productive life, spending 12+ years in marching band before the family finally graduated all their kids. The wood was wrecked after spending over a decade on the field, so I designated the keys to become jewelry! The stone is Hubei turquoise of an unusual color and pattern. The chain is 18 inches long with a lobster claw clasp.
