Gracious! I have been a neglectful blogger, haven't I. It's funny how the time will get away from you when you're not paying attention. First, let me say that I'm grateful for the experience that I got from the Craft Guild of Dallas Spring Show & Sale. It was indeed an eye-opener, and convinced me I am ready to try shows that are further from home. Thanks to Ann from Dallas who gave one of my clarinet key pendants a home! I've applied to art shows all over Texas, including some well-known ones here in the Dallas area. I won't find out about those until later in the summer, but so far I've heard from three. I am on the wait-list for the Bayou City Art Festival in Houston. This one is a big show, and only the top 300 are even invited. I was unsure what to make of my wait-list status until it was explained to me by my teacher that unlike in Music World where being put on a wait-list is a polite way of saying "we already had someone in mind but we had to meet union requirements by holding these auditions", art shows can and do give flat-out rejections. so being wait-listed is like coming in second place. In other words, I may still get to go, but only time will tell. At any rate, I think it's pretty exciting to have made it that far in a juried art show. I also got wait-listed for THE SHOW in Dripping Springs, Texas. I will know for certain if they have a place for me by the end of this month, so fingers crossed! And now, the big announcement! I'm very pleased to tell you that I have been accepted to exhibit at Septemberfest 2017 at The Museum of the Southwest in Midland Texas! Wheeeeeeeeeee!!!! This is gonna be so cool!!!!! And hot, because it's outside, but whatever. I've got big plans to have some new pieces finished by then. Unfortunately for my clarinet repair customers, this means a hiatus starting at the beginning of August. I'm planning to add flute keys to the clarinet key pendant lineup. I'm also planning on hybridizing the wire weaving with the instrument key pendants, but I have to figure out the best way to incorporate that. I also have a new creation I have dubbed The Turquoise Queen (which I will write a blog about, because the production of the piece took MONTHS and was pretty epic in and of itself). I have also amassed a collection of colored copper wire for some other wire weaving projects, but I'm having a bit of difficulty translating what's in my head into wire patterns. This may take a while, so I don't plan on unleashing them upon the world for a bit. In the mean time, I'm waiting on results for shows in the farthest-flung reaches of the great state of Texas. Hopefully there will be other road trips in my future in addition to traveling to Midland in September. I'll keep you posted!
